California's Special Education Assistive Technology Program

California's Special Education Assistive Technology Program is administered by the California, Department of Education. Special Education is instruction that is specially designed to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Special Education is provided at no cost to parents. AT equipment and services identified on the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) as necessary to assist a child in the educational process may be purchased by the school district. Services and Equipment funded by Special Education Assessment Commercial equipment or product system, modified or customized for the student. "Unlocking Human Potential Through Assistive Technology" What is ATEN? The Assistive Technology Educational Network (ATEN) offers services to support Florida's 67 school districts in meeting the assistive technology needs of their students. We provide services to students, family members, teachers, and other professionals. Our professional staff includes educators speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists, and a biomedical engineer.

ATEN is a project funded through the State of Florida Department of Education, Division of Public Schools, Bureau of Student Services and Exceptional Education and managed by Orange County Public Schools. ATEN is housed in OCPS facilities in Orlando, Florida. ATEN is a Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources (FDLRS) Specialized Center funded under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part B.

8th Circuit Decisions Peter Westendorp v. Wedl

9/16/98: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit reached a decision in favor of parents who had sued their local districts and the state on the issue of providing a paraprofessional to a child placed in a religious school.
