I have a history of TMJ, but hadn't been bothered with it for awhile before I started taking AdderallXR in April. I noticed that for about a month or so, I had soreness in my jaws and would grind my teeth. I also had this annoying side effect of pushing my tongue against the back of my front teeth really hard. These have both disappeared with time.
Sweet, that's what I was hoping, thanks!
I have found myself clenching my jaw and biting down on my teeth till it hurts so bad I have to stop. I have been on stimulants about 8 yrs. The last 6 yrs. I have been on adderall but this has only started happenning the last couple of weeks. I stopped taking adderall a lil over a week ago due to an adverse reaction. I STILL was doing it even after I stopped the adderall. I also take seroquel, trileptal and effexor XR. I am gonna tell my psychiatrist tomorrow...I want to stop it's driving me crazy!I've been on Adderall form about 6 weeks now and it is working great. I'm taking 30 mg's twice a day and it has really improved my everyday life. The only side effect I have noticed is that my jaw has been feeling tight and can get pretty sore in the afternoons and evenings leading to a headache and a stiff/sore neck as well.
I didn't notice this until about 2 weeks ago but have seen that it is fairly common with the stimulants. What I was wondering is if anyone knows if this usually goes away after a few weeks like any other side effect or if it is an ongoing problem. My doctor told me to let him know if it continues because there are medications that can relive the problem but he doesn't want to add anything else if possible.
HA, yeah speed makes you grind your teeth and jaws alot.I'm just now finishing 2 weeks of Adderall XR, and at first I was grinding my teeth and popping my jaw (it has a click/pop in it and I kept messing with it). It has seemed to taper off--still there, but not nearly as bad--but I'm also about to start on Adderall IR so who knows if it'll come back :-/ I did find that chewing gum was useful to keep on hand--kept my jaw moving without grinding *quite* as harshly, and also helped with the dry mouth (this was particularly annoying, as I could gulp down two water bottles and still feel parched).
I'm just now finishing 2 weeks of Adderall XR, and at first I was grinding my teeth and popping my jaw (it has a click/pop in it and I kept messing with it). So far I haven't noticed myself grinding at all, but I am constantly stretching it out and doing neck rolls to ease the tightness in my neck and shoulders. I problably look pretty funny to anyone watching, but what are you gonna do!!
The dry mouth was annoying but it only lasted about a week for me so hopefully that will disappear for you as well. The one thing I've noticed is that I get a nasty taste in my mouth in the late morning but a little listerine clears that up pretty quick! I've been drinking tons of water so far as well, almost to the point that I am getting sick of it but the summer heat makes it easy to do most of the time.

I dont know it to be a fairly common side effect of stimulant medications but you might want to discuss this with your doctor and also your pharmacist. A pharamcist would certainly be well versed on common and uncommon side effects. Below is more information about teeth grinding and jaw clenching.

oh i wondered why i always grind my teeth and jaws. I thought maybe i hadYou guys think your jaw pain is bad? My wisdom teeth are coming in already and thats jaw pain you dont wanna feel.
I have TMJ so gum chewing would make my jaw pain worse. I have a bite plane that I wear at night. I have not worn it in a while but I guess I will start wearing it again until this jaw pain goes away. My doc just increased my Concerta. It has helped my concentration but the headaches are annoying.I find that I grind my teeth as well. I am on 30mg Adderall IR 2x a day now and from the time I started taking Adderall XR, I have found that I clench my jaw, grind my teeth, lose my appetite, drink tons of liquid, smoke like a chimney, and want to talk non stop. I also tend to bite the heck out of the inside of my mouth...weird...
