DMG | ADHD Information
Hi all-
This message board is getting SOOOOO interesting!!! I am wondering if any of you have tried DMG. It is a non-protein amino acid that enhances neurotransmitter production. It is referred to as Vitamin B-15 and is similar to Vit B6 and Magnesium. I read an article from the Center for the Study of Autism amd Spectrum disorders and they claim that it can help up to 50 % of kids and adults that try it. Evidently it helps transport oxygen to cells, increasing their efficiency and prevents lactic acid build-up in the muscles. It must be used by bodybuilders (?). Also strengthens the immune system. There is a company called Mountain Naturals of Vermont that makes a product called "Behavbior Balance" that helps improve behavior, speech, and frustration threshold- sometimes within 24 hours. This sounds interesting. Do any of you have info. on it or have used it with your kids? Glad so many of you are experiencing such great successes!!! YEA!!!! Maya Thanks Coach 1-
You have a way of explaining things so that most of us can understand all of these interactions. I do appreciate it and have read many of your posts on this board. While it is true that much of what I have read seems to apply to Autism, it is well worth considering it for ADHD as well. I'm not sure what we will do- whether to try or not. We are continuing to have good results with omegas, zinc, magnesium, and a good multi-vitamin. My son's grades have improved dramatically and we are experiencing a great school year. I am noticing some edginess again but am not sure if it means that we need to increase his omegas or not. For those of you who read the Chicago Trib, there was an interesting article in the Q section of the Sunday paper entitled "Attention!". It listed the primary non-drug treatments that most of us know about but I was happy to see that it gets the word out that there are alternatives that one can seek out. It also indicated that many of these alternatives "proof of efficacy are largely anecdotal". Too bad that they don't know about the wonderful changes that many of us have experienced with our kids- we sure could tell them! Thanks again! Maya
DMG will help the methylation pathways. Which is involved in the productuion of neurotransmitters. Plus improved methylation means improved detoxification. For more info check out the boards at www.autismanswer.com
TMG is another one that works n the same way and sometimes better. Betaine is another name for it.
BETAINE by Ray Sahelian, M.D.
You will find Information on betaine hcl and the role of betaine and homocysteine
Betaine is a metabolite of choline, and is also known as trimethylglycine or TMG. Betaine works by donating methyl (CH3) groups. Betaine has the ability to convert homocysteine to methionine.
Unless your major is college was chemistry, chances are you don’t remember learning about methyl donors. A methyl donor is simply any substance that can transfer a methyl group, a carbon atom attached to three hydrogen atoms, to another substance. Many important biochemical processes rely on methylation, including the metabolism of lipids, neurotransmitters, and DNA. Scientists suspect that adequate methylation of DNA can prevent the expression of harmful genes, such as cancer genes. It’s quite likely that our body’s ability to methylate declines with age, potentially contributing to the aging process, and therefore supplementation is an interesting potential in terms of health benefits.
